St. Victor Elementary School

With one school year behind them and the next soon to start, St. Victor Elementary School in Mattawa, Ontario sits proud. A rural school in the heart of Northern Ontario, this 24,000 sq ft, newly built Nipissing Parry Sound Catholic District School Board facility houses six brightly lit classrooms (with views of the Laurentian mountains), a beautiful state-of-the-art gymnasium, a daycare and outdoor play areas.

Designed by Laroque Elder Architects Inc. (LEA), the rich wood history of Mattawa played a very important role in choosing the building material for this project. A structure with high visibility, Jean Larocque (LEA) wanted to elevate the traditional look of a school and create a warm and welcoming environment.

“This project provides the local community with a landmark state of the art educational and community facility, respectful of the Town’s culture and history and supportive of Mattawa’s future generations and the forestry industry. Guided by strong community and sustainable influences, the design team for the St.Victor Elementary School whole-heartedly supports the use of wood as the primary construction material.
