Summary: Robert Martin, an Ottawa Architect, was considering how to renovate his own home. He wanted to reflect the value that he carries as an architect, in his words “live small, live well”. His wartime stucco house had minimal insulation and poor ventilation. He was hoping to simply ‘reskin’ the builiding, but rot and lack of vapour barriers drove him renovate the entire wall structure.
He developed a ventilated rainscreen solution using the SuperPanel product. Along with new vapour barrier, foam insulation and a wood framing system he developed a solution that is likely R40, and very tight.
Robert’s attention to detailing in 3D allowed the installer to know to exact measurements how all openings and transitions would be managed. The installer was a skilled carpenter, who, however had no experience installing this kind of product.
Once he got the hang of it, it went very well.
No special training was required.
Robert is very enthusiastic about SuperPanel and the approach of designing in a ventilated, pressure equalized rainscreen wall. Even for a single home.
People stop and go as far as knocking on his door to ask about the unique look in his choice of building materials created for his home.
Thanks to Robertson Martin and Kirk Builders for another great job!!
